Surrogacy is an incredible experience that enables you to help someone else while helping your own family at the same time. It is also complex, and Tiny Sprouts will guide you through this journey from the first contact to postpartum. We are here to provide you with dedicated support and expertise every step of your journey.
WHY USE AN AGENCY RATHER THEN BE INDEPENDENT? The relationship between a parent and their surrogate is unique; discussions of cost, escrow, doctors, and lawyers can overwhelm and cause stress in this delicate personal relationship. Tiny Sprouts will work with you and your intended parents to handle the details, allowing you both to relax and enjoy the pregnancy!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A SURROGATE? Typically, it takes 2-3 months for screening matching and legal clearance. If you have specific needs, such as no termination or a local match, it could take a bit longer to find the best intended parent for you.
HOW MUCH CONTACT WILL I HAVE WITH THE INTENDED PARENTS? The amount of contact depends on the wishes of both the surrogate and the intended parent(s). Typically, the relationship and communication happens naturally as you go through the process, and oftentimes lifelong friendships are built. There are surrogates and intended parents who prefer to keep their relationship strictly business, and when matching, we take this into consideration.
CAN I BE A SURROGATE IF I HAVE HAD MY TUBES TIED? Yes.
WHAT DOES MY SPOUSE OR PARTNER NEED TO DO? Your spouse or partner will be required to do a background check and go through medical and psychological screening. They will also need to sign the contract and of course, be supportive of you throughout the surrogacy process.
WILL I BE RELATED TO THE CHILD? As a gestational surrogate, you will be using the eggs from either the intended mother or an egg donor and will not have a genetic relationship with the child.
WHERE WILL THE BABY BE DELIVERED? CAN I CHOOSE MY OB? You will deliver in your local hospital or a hospital that you and your intended parents agree on. You will choose your own OB based on your insurance and who you are comfortable working with.
WHY IS BMI IMPORTANT? BMI guidelines are set by the fertility doctors that we work with for health reasons and to ensure that you will respond appropriately to the medications.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT AFTER I DELIVER BEFORE BECOMING A SURROGATE? You should wait at least 6 months before transferring, but we can still match you with an intended parent and get legal clearance taken care of in the meantime.
I HAVE HAD AN ABORTION CAN I STILL BE A SURROGATE? Yes.
I TAKE MEDICATIONS CAN I STILL BE A SURROGATE? In some cases, you may be able to be on certain medications and still be a surrogate; this is determined on a case-by-case basis.
CAN I BE A SURROGATE IF MY SPOUSE DOES NOT AGREE? No, it is very important to have the full support of your spouse or partner to be a surrogate.
I DO NOT BELIEVE IN SELECTIVE REDUCTION OR ABORTION FOR ANY REASON, CAN I STILL BE A SURROGATE? Yes. We do have couples who share these beliefs; however, they are less common, so please be aware that it may take a little longer to match you.
WHY DO YOU NEED MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER? Your social security number is used for your background check and confirmation of your identity.
WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I HAVE SUBMITTED MY SCREENING FORMS AND PHOTOS? Your coordinator will be in touch as soon as your records have been reviewed, and we will begin moving forward with the next steps.
WILL I HAVE TO TRAVEL? Depending on your location, you may need to travel for screening as well as transfer.
CAN I REQUEST THAT ONLY A SINGLE EMBRYO BE TRANSFERRED? Yes, we prefer it, you should only transfer the number of embryos that you feel comfortable carrying.
WILL I NEED TO TAKE MEDICATIONS? ARE THERE INJECTIONS? Yes, you will take medications during the cycle, sometimes they are injectable. Your fertility clinic will determine the best medications for you.
WILL I NEED TO BE ON BED REST? Each clinic has their own protocol, however they typically require 24-48 hours of modified bed rest after your transfer and as with any pregnancy it is possible that your OB may determine bed rest is necessary for your health and that of the baby or babies.
